About the Organization
Hope Chest is a 100% volunteer-run, non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization that collects new and gently used clothing, small appliances and household items to help Lake County residents of all ages. Thanks to funding and donations from individuals, local churches, businesses and community organizations, the opportunity to shop at our location is free to individuals in need.
The Challenge
Before the website was launched, many of Hope Chest's processes were handled manually. Appointment requests were managed only by phone, which limited when people could schedule an appointment and created extra work for the 100% volunteer run staff. They were relying only on Facebook to share their mission and important information for donors and clients alike. Important information was difficult for people to find: donors couldn't easily find donation guidelines and current needs lists, and clients couldn't find appointment information and open hours.

​Additionally, while Hope Chest relies on donations of essential, new items like socks and underwear, there was no easy way for the community to support the organization online. Donations required in-person drop offs, which limited participation for those who couldn't visit during open hours.
The Solution
I designed and built a clean, easy-to-navigate website that not only communicates Hope Chest's mission and how to best support the organization, but supports their key operational needs.

Online Appointment Request Form - Visitors can now submit appointment request forms online at any time, providing all the necessary information for the appointment scheduler to coordinate appointments more efficiently.

Amazon Donation Program - I created and now manage an Amazon account with wish lists that are updated monthly based on Hope Chest's current needs. This allows supporters to easily donate essential items directly from their phones and shipped right to the organization.

Clear Website Structure - The website organizes information about the organization's services, mission, donation information and ways to get involved in a clear and accessible format.
The Result
These digital improvements have significantly improved both accessibility and operational efficiency for Hope Chest.

The online appointment form allows clients to request appointments at any time of day, while insuring the Hope Chest team receives all necessary information.

The Amazon donation system has made it easier for supporters to contribute to Hope Chest's mission.

In 2025 alone:

This system has helped increase donations of items that the organization cannot accept secondhand, while making it easier for the community to offer support from anywhere.
